Information for Anyone
Ask your doctor, pharmacist or pharmacist if you have any other questions.Caregivers'hey productsAlways read the label and follow the directions for use.The price of a capsule of Nexium was a surprising find for the Australian pharmacist. This prescription-only drug is commonly known by its brand name, Nexium, and has a price tag of less than $5.
A recent survey by a pharmacist at a private pharmacy in New South Wales revealed that about 2.5% of Australian patients took the prescription drug before deciding to take it. This compares to a typical 30% of Australian patients.
This report is the result of a survey conducted by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBSA) and the National Health Service (NHS), which was funded by the Government of New South Wales.
The results of the survey reveal that over half of the patients in their first ever dose of the prescription drug had taken the medication before deciding to take it. The majority of patients in their first dose of the prescription drug, and half of them in their second dose, were taking it for the first time. A further 43% of the patients in their first dose of the prescription drug had taken the medication prior to its first dose. This represented a 33% reduction in the cost of their treatment.
The pharmacy pharmacist reported that the cost of a capsule of Nexium for the first time had been $5.64, compared to $2.08 for the prescription drug, while the cost of a capsule of Nexium had been $9.05, compared to $2.06.
A previous survey conducted by the NPSA found that nearly two thirds of patients who took Nexium were unable to take their medication or required hospital admission due to the risk of severe side effects.
The price of a capsule of Nexium was more than double the price of a capsule of Prilosec (the branded medication) for the first time. This was the third study to highlight this in Australia and the first to report on this in New South Wales.
The findings of the survey are presented in a recent survey by the NPSA.
The findings of this survey are available on the website of the Pharmacy and Poisons Information Service at.
About the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBSA):
The PBS provides the financial incentives to pharmacies and healthcare providers to provide medicines to patients and to help patients achieve their treatment goals. The PBS has a policy which explains how medicines are dispensed in the pharmacy and how they are made. If a patient has questions about the medicines they are taking, the pharmacist can answer these questions and get information on the medicines dispensed by the PBS. It can also be accessed by phone, email, or live message.
The pharmacy is not required to give permission for people to self-medicate, as the pharmacist is responsible for prescribing and dispensing the medicines. The pharmacist does not need permission from the patient and cannot self-medicate. The PBS can help patients to self-medicate by providing information about the medicines dispensed by the PBS and ensuring that the patient is aware of these changes and can speak with a pharmacist or prescriber if appropriate.
The pharmacy also is not required to provide patients with information about medicines that they are taking. Patients can ask the pharmacist if the medication they are taking is safe for them to take and to what dose they have been taking. It may be that the patient has questions about the medicine that they are taking and has information that is helpful in answering these questions.
Patients are encouraged to follow the Pharmacy and Poisons Information Service’s website at.
